Sport - Back to Massey. Flex and Rigid to Summit. The airport manager is quite unfriendly and says that anyone who lands at this privately owned, publicly funded airport will be arrested. We are calling a 2 mile radius goal and told pilots not to land there. The wind is less than yesterday right now.

long walk home

This morning I am driving out to the flight park and I see a pilot walking back towards the bed and breakfast - he is still a few miles away. I turn around and pick him up. Long night at the local watering hole and he lost his keys (probably a good thing). Details remain sketchy. Probably just happy not to have a sailplane fly into him.

You know the flight park is seriously into poker when they have personalized chips and playing cards. 13 person all-evening tournament yesterday. Kristin was 4th just out of the money and Paris was getting tired. 3rd Paris Williams - $5, 2nd Sunny Venesky - $23, 1st David Glover - $37. My first win.

Sport is going back to Massey. Flex/Rigid is doing a 40 miler to Dudley then Summit. Low cloud-base, medium south winds make it look tought right now. Planned start 1pm Race.

Local Dive called "Dave's". We filled the place up - they were not expecting us. Be sure to order beer when "Lucy" asks for your order, if you don't you will think she just ate a bushel of lemons. The Band drove most of the pilots outside to the deck to eat.

A neat benefit of having a Flytec 5030/gps vario. A few of the pilots knew they had goal on a glide before they arrived at the last turnpoint. A nice feature that other varios don't have. Around the turnpoint buttonhook.

Hot and humid today. The Sport goal is to Massey - 23 miles. Flex and Rigid do 4 turnpoints then to Massey for a distance of 47 miles. We are starting earlier today because of a potential of thunderstorms.

3 Rigids made it to goal, they went on final glide 14 miles out, the Flytec 5030 had them making it with 250 to spare - it was exactly what they had when the arrived. Finishers: Ollie-first, Davis-second, Tjaden-third.
